Utoo Radio and Other News Sources - April 30, 2024 - The trial of Jeremy Skibicki, a 37-year-old serial killer, began in Winnipeg, on Monday.

Skibicki was charged in 2022 with first-degree murder and is suspected of targeting Indigenous women living on the street.

The trial, which is scheduled to last six weeks, began with a preliminary hearing.

The bodies of Morgan Harris and Marcedes Myran were believed to have been dumped at the Prairie Green landfill, north of Winnipeg. The partial remains of another victim, Rebecca Contois, were found in a different landfill, while the body of a fourth unidentified woman, Buffalo Woman, has not been found.

The trial comes amid revelations that at least 1,200 Indigenous women have been killed or gone missing in recent decades, and hundreds of unmarked children's graves at Indigenous residential schools across Canada.
