Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - January 22, 2025 - President Donald Trump has announced plans to rename North America's tallest peak, Denali, as Mount McKinley, a proposal that faced strong opposition from state political leaders.
The move aims to "restore the name of a great president, William McKinley, to Mount McKinley, where it should be and where it belongs."
The name change was initially proposed by then-President Barack Obama in 2015, but was later changed to reflect Alaska Native traditions.
The mountain, which is 6,190 meters high, is in Denali National Park and Preserve.
The Tanana Chiefs Conference, a consortium of Athabascan tribes in Interior Alaska, has been advocating for the peak to be recognized as Denali. Alaska has a standing request to change the name since 1975.
