Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - August 15 2024 - Opaskwayak Cree Nation Chief Maureen Brown has become the first female chief to shoot the flaming arrow at Opaskwayak Indigenous Days.

It marked a significant change in the community.

Brown, who wore a headdress and ribbon skirt, aims to address issues such as empowering the Opaskwayak Cree Nation to recognize their ability to govern themselves.

She believes that a paradigm shift in thinking is necessary to change the narrative that women are not capable of governing themselves.

The event, which runs until Sunday, continues the tradition of shooting the flaming arrow.
