Utoo Radio - September 9, 2024 - The Northwest Territories Council of Leaders (NWTCOL) meeting in Yellowknife, NT, saw key discussions on health and wellness, emergency management, infrastructure, and economic reconciliation.

Key topics included the creation of a Health and Social Services Working Group to address mental health and addictions issues in communities and the NWT.

A working group was also established to review the Emergency Management Act and consider potential amendments.

The NWTCOL forum provides an opportunity for members to discuss territory-wide social and economic issues and work towards solutions.

The NWTCOL forum is a productive forum and an example of meaningful partnership between Indigenous and GNWT leaders, consistent with reconciliation principles.

The NWTCOL Memorandum of Understanding, signed on June 11, 2021, strengthens intergovernmental relationships between Indigenous governments and organizations with the GNWT and enables the advancement of shared priorities.

This is the NWT Council of Leaders' fourth year of meetings since its inaugural meeting in June 2021.
