Utoo Radio - April 12 2024 - MLAs in the Northwest Territories held consultations on the proposed Missing Persons Act in Aklavik and Inuvik.

The Standing Committee on Social Development held public meetings in Aklavik and Inuvik to hear feedback on the act.

The Missing Persons Act would allow the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to access records, including information found on electronic devices, school attendance, employment, personal health, and finances.

The legislative assembly is scheduled to vote on it in May, where it could receive third reading and become law.

The act was brought back into the spotlight after the disappearance of Frank Gruben last spring.

The feedback will be written up into recommendations for the assembly during their next sitting.
