Utoo Radio and Other News Sources, April 19, 2024 Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has officially recognized two more Indigenous territories but postponed the legalization of four others due to ongoing occupying.

The territories are granted legal protection as reservations to defend against invasions by illegal loggers, gold miners, and cattle ranchers.

Lula signed the recognition of the Aldeia Velha and Cacique Fontoura lands in Bahia and Mato Grosso.

He has recognized 10 indigenous territories since January 2023.

The other four territories are currently occupied by farmers or socially vulnerable people, and the government wants them to leave peacefully.

Lula acknowledged that some state governors have asked for more time to resolve the issue but emphasized the need to offer alternative alternatives.
