Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - June 19, 2024 - Mexican President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum has emphasized the importance of constitutional reforms for social programs relating to the rights and recognition of Indigenous people.

Sheinbaum stated that the respect and recognition of Indigenous and Afro-Mexican peoples is a fundamental priority for upcoming talks.

The newly elected Congress will discuss reforms proposed by the outgoing government of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, including a controversial judicial reform that could see Supreme Court judges appointed by popular election.

Mexico is home to 68 Indigenous peoples, speaking over 60 languages, including Nahuatl and Mayan.
