Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - June 20, 2024 - Norway, Sweden, and Finland have agreed to establish an Arctic military transport corridor to transport personnel and equipment to Finland amid tensions with Russia.

The move is the latest security move following Finland and Sweden's NATO accession. Russia has increased its military presence in the Arctic region, and Finland and Sweden joined the alliance to address regional security concerns following Moscow's 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

The corridor will facilitate quick movement of personnel and materiel from Norwegian ports to Finland.

Finland and Sweden joined NATO after decades of military non-alignment after the Ukraine invasion.

The Arctic region has gained geopolitical importance due to melting ice and the potential opening of vital shipping routes and resources. The Norwegian government plans to lead the work in establishing the corridor, identifying bottlenecks, updating regulations, and investing in infrastructure.
