Utoo Radio - July 12, 2024 - The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) has called for an independent commission of inquiry into the deaths of Rebecca Contois, Morgan Harris, Marcedes Myran, and Mashkode Bizhiki’ikwe, following the conviction of Jeremy Skibicki for first-degree murder.

National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak expressed solidarity with the grieving families and emphasized the need for First Nations commissioners to lead the inquiry.

The First Nations-in-Assembly passed a draft resolution calling for an independent inquiry, based on recommendations from the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs.

She emphasized the importance of First Nations laws and protocols in guiding the healing process for those grieving their loved ones and restoring respect for families and survivors.
