Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - September 25 2024 - The Manitoba government and First Nations advocacy group are recruiting workers to help search a landfill for the remains of two victims of a serial killer.
The province is working with the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs to recruit multiple technicians to assist forensic anthropologists in the search for Indigenous women's remains in the Prairie Green landfill.
The government encourages family and community members to apply, with preference given to Indigenous applicants.
The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs will oversee the hiring with funding from the province. Police previously said they wouldn't search the landfill due to concerns for toxic materials.
The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs Grand Chief Cathy Merrick was instrumental in pushing for the search.
