Pulp Company Fined For Releasing Toxic Chemicals

Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - October 16, 2024 - A pulp mill operator in Alberta has been fined $1 million for releasing nearly 31 million litres of toxic wastewater into the Peace River.

Environment and Climate Change Canada claims the effluent was "acutely lethal" to fish.

Mercer Peace River Pulp Ltd. pleaded guilty to a section of the Fisheries Act and will be added to the Environmental Offenders Registry.

The fine will go into Ottawa's Environmental Damages Fund.

The pulp mill was shut down for maintenance.
