A march in Vancouver ended with a commemorative event at Victory Square, while the Tsleil-Waututh Nation held a ceremony at Whey-ah-Wichen.
The flag atop the B.C. Parliament Buildings was lowered to half-mast in Victoria.
B.C. Premier David Eby said Indigenous Peoples contributed to peacekeeping efforts despite being denied basic civil liberties, including the right to vote. Indigenous veterans were discriminated against and denied benefits for decades after the Korean War.
The federal government acknowledges how it treated Indigenous veterans during that time, expropriating hundreds of thousands of hectares of reserve lands.
