Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - November 7, 2024 - Former Saskatchewan senator Lillian Dyck has described Murray Sinclair as a larger-than-life figure with a gentle yet strong spirit.

Sinclair, the first Indigenous judge in Manitoba and the renowned Manitoba lawyer who led the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), died at the age of 73.

Dyck said Sinclair's work with the TRC will have a profound effect on all Canadians for years to come.

She emphasized the importance of developing curriculums based on the TRC's work in universities and schools to include the history of the country in the curriculum.

Sinclair retired from the Senate in 2021 and was appointed chancellor of Queen's University.

Cadmus Delorme, the former chief of Cowessess First Nation in Saskatchewan, said Sinclair's legacy is understood by understanding his role in creating the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's recommendations in Canada.

The Saskatoon Tribal Council (STC) released a statement on Sinclair's death, credited to Chief Mark Arcand, expressing gratitude for his work advancing Truth and Reconciliation.
