Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - November 7, 2024 - The killing of an Inuk man by police in Quebec's Far North is an example of systemic racism, according to Canada's minister for Crown-Indigenous relations, Gary Anandasangaree.

The shooting of Joshua Papigatuk and his twin brother Garnet has led to calls for change in the Nunavik region.

The police watchdog, Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes, has opened an investigation into the incident.

Nunavik has a higher rate of police-related deaths compared to other northern regions and territories in Canada.

The association of First Nations and Inuit Police Directors has called for improved relations with the community and a change in the police force's name.
