Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - November 9 2024 - Ontario's fast-tracked bill for Highway 413 is causing concern for Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, as it allows construction before an Indigenous consultation is completed.
The province's Reducing Gridlock, Saving You Time Act allows early works on the construction of Highway 413, which would cut across wetlands, rivers, forests, and agricultural lands, causing pollution and destruction of fish habitats.
Environmental Defence has filed a request for a renewed federal impact assessment on the project.
The province has been in consultation with Mississaugas of the Credit since 2018, but the decision to move ahead before consultation and environmental assessments is seen as essentially locking the government into a decision that should be open to adjustment.
