Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - November 27, 2024 - Indigenous children at Catholic-run Good Shepherd Homes in Canada experienced similar experiences to those at residential schools, according to the Special Interlocutor for Missing Children and Unmarked Graves and Burial Sites Associated with Indian Residential Schools.

The report found that girls who were deemed troubled or "delinquent" from residential schools were often transferred to the Good Shepherd Homes. The report also highlighted the need for further investigation into potential missing children.

Cree Elder Taz Bouchier recalls being taken to the Mapleridge Residential Treatment Centre for Girls in 1971, comparing her experience to residential schools where Indian agents stole children.

The report also highlighted the connection between residential schools and the Good Shepherd Homes, as many Indigenous girls experienced sexual abuse and were impregnated.

The Archdiocese of Edmonton is aware of the building's history but is not aware of unresolved complaints.
