Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - December 19, 2024 - The Survivors' Secretariat, a non-profit organization investigating missing children and unmarked burials at the former Mohawk Institute Indian Residential School in Brantford, Ontario, is facing closure unless it receives a decision from Crown-Indigenous Relations.

The organization has not received any funding this fiscal year and has stopped working on two projects to maintain core operations.

The secretariat is set to run out of money imminently, and the government is accused of breaking promises and lying to survivors about Canada's commitment to uncovering the truth.

The organization has cited past promises from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Gary Anandasangaree, who pledged to stand with survivors in their quest to uncover the truth.

However, Canada has tried to cut and cap the available cash from the community support fund, blocking communities from using the money for invasive archeological investigations.

A national advisory committee working on access to records resigned over their own lack of funding, sending a message to survivors that Ottawa is not as committed as it claims.
