Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - February 5 2025 - Republican leaders in the United States are preparing legislation to cut $1 trillion from the government's budget, which would dwarf President Donald Trump and Elon Musk's early moves to shutter agencies and send staff packing.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said lawmakers were working off a baseline that included roughly $1 trillion in cuts over a decade.

This figure is in the ballpark of what Musk said could be accomplished last month, when he backed off a plan to identify $2 trillion in cuts as a 'best case' scenario and said there was a 'good shot' at cutting half that mount.

Trump and congressional leaders have centered on a strategy of relying on the budget'reconciliation' process to protect one big bill from a certain Democratic filibuster.

The first step will be to get a resolution out of the Budget Committee, where Republicans are squabbling over the size of the cuts.
