After screening in the White House, Canadian Parliament, and over a dozen indigenous communities throughout North America, the documentary sparked a grassroots campaign to uncover other schools' truths.
The film has helped Native Americans grieve and start community conversations.
However, it comes at a political time when governments are not actively backing investigation and accountability. NoiseCat thinks the first indigenous North American film to win an Oscar nomination will highlight that much remains unknown about North America's founding story.
