Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - February 14, 2025 - The 18th Valentine's Day walk for Missing and Murdered Indigenous People in Thunder Bay aims to ensure the memory of loved ones isn't forgotten and provide support to their surviving families and friends.

The event, co-organized by Sharon Bourdeau, Kim Ducharme, and Jeanette Posine, took place at The Bannock Lady restaurant.

The walk is a reminder that the memory of Sandra Kaye Johnson, who was found dead in 1992, will never be forgotten.

Statistics Canada shows First Nations, Inuit, and Métis are overrepresented among victims of violence in Canada, and Indigenous women and girls are 12 times more likely to be missing or murdered than other women.

The walk supports the victims and families of all Missing and Murdered Indigenous People, and continuing to walk every year is necessary as the issue is still ongoing.
