Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - March 5, 2025 - Canadians are expected to experience a prolonged trade war with the US, with prices on consumer goods potentially rising over the next weeks.

Food prices may be the first to be affected, as they are perishable and can only be stored for a relatively short period of time.

In response, Canada imposed 25% tariffs on $30 billion worth of US goods, which will be applied to another $125 billion worth of imports after a three-week consultation period.

The trade war could cause overall inflation to rise from between 0.5 to 1%, which is huge. Prices will also rise in supermarkets, electronics, computers, and other consumer products that either ship through or come from the US.

Retail businesses may adjust pricing or even offer discounts of existing stock.

The price of liquor from the US will also go up, leading to restaurants and bars increasing their prices.

The auto industry is expected to face price hikes on new vehicles, as well as the exchange rate.
