Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - March 9, 2025 - RCMP have identified Morgan Beatrice Harris' bones as one of two found in a dump outside Winnipeg late last month.
Experts have been searching for Harris and Marcedes Myran's remains since late last year. Two Long Plain First Nation women, 95 km west of Winnipeg, were among four First Nations women murdered by serial killer Jeremy Skibicki in 2022.
In a Facebook post, Morgan's daughter Cambria Harris called Friday's news "very bittersweet moment."
"Please keep our families in your hearts tonight and every day going forward as we trust this process," added the message. "I believe both our families will bring both of our loved ones home."
The province claimed in a news release late Friday evening that Harris's remains were located at the Prairie Green landfill north of Winnipeg on Feb. 26. Relevant authorities will offer more information as facts are confirmed.
Skubicki was convicted of four first-degree murders in July 2024 for killing four Winnipeg women in 2022.
He was convicted of murdering Rebecca Contois, 24, and Mashkode Bizhiki'ikwe, or Buffalo Woman, as well as Harris and Myran.
Officials believe Contois was Skibicki's last victim on May 14 or 15, 2022. He allegedly killed Mashkode Bizhiki'ikwe in mid-March.
Harris, 39, and Myran, 26, were likely killed in early May 2022.
Contois' remains were found in garbage bins near Skibicki's residence and at Winnipeg's Brady Road dump.
Skibicki's trial revealed that Harris and Myran's remains were in a dumpster a few blocks away when Contois's remains were recovered and due to be hauled to a landfill that morning.
On June 20, 2022, authorities discovered Harris and Myran's corpses had been moved to Prairie Green, where more than 10,000 loads of garbage had been deposited.
Winnipeg police initially considered landfill searches impractical. The victims' families, First Nations leaders, and community residents were furious because then-premier Heather Stefanson and her Progressive Conservative party supported the decision.
The PCs opposed landfill searches in the previous provincial election. Party ads declared "for health and safety reasons, the answer on the landfill dig just has to be no."
The party's interim head apologized to the four First Nations women's families early this week for not searching.
Premier Wab Kinew's NDP, which won the October 2023 election, pledged a search.
In October 2024, excavators began removing material from the landfill where Harris and Myran's bones were believed to be.
The hunt began in December.
