Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - March 9, 2025 - The federal government has committed to spending $1.5 billion over 10 years to fulfill its promises in the Nunavut land claim agreement.

The Nunavut Premier, Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Gary Anandasangaree, and Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. president Jeremy Tunraluk signed the new Nunavut Agreement Implementation Contract in Ottawa.

The contract includes $600 million for employment training initiatives to increase Nunavut Inuit representation in public service, $50 million for an Inuit Heritage Centre, and substantial funding increases for hunters and trappers organizations.

The signing marks the first time the parties have successfully negotiated a Nunavut Agreement Implementation Contract since the agreement was ratified in 1993.

The new contract "nearly triples" funding for hunters and trappers organizations and regional wildlife organizations in Nunavut, the first increase since the original contract was signed in 1993.
